Which is it, a Cold Moon or a Winter Moon for the Full Moon in December? In December’s Full Moon has earned the nickname of the Cold Moon. “In Native American cultures which tracked the calendar by the moons, December’s full moon was known as the Full Cold Moon,” It is called a Winter Moon, because it is went the night are longest and the day is the shortest day. On Friday, 21st of December, it was the Winter solstice for the Northern Hemisphere. It was rainy and cloudy for most of Friday. Saturday morning turn out to be clear and breezy.

The above picture was taken at 06:10:52 on Saturday morning. I used the Nikon Nikkon 50mm f/1:18G len, and the tripod to capture the pictures. I used a Shutter Speed of 10.0 seconds, an Aperture setting of f/1.8, and an ISO of 100. Gale force winds were forecasted for the area. It was hard keeping the camera steady with the winds coming out of the North West at 20 plus knots.
Example: It was hard to keep the camera on the tripod. I used a Shutter Speed of 1/100, an Aperture setting of f/10, and an ISO of 100. I also used the Nikon Nikkon DX AF-S 55-300mm 4.5-5.6 GED len with zoomed at 300mm.
I was able to get some good pictures of the Moon setting in the North West sky,

I used a Shutter Speed of 4.0 seconds, an Aperture setting of f/4.5, and an ISO of 1/125.

I used a Shutter Speed of 1.6 seconds, an Aperture setting of f/4.8, and an ISO of 125.

I used a Shutter Speed of 10.0 seconds, an Aperture setting of f/8, and an ISO of 125.

For now I will leave this blog posting open, if it stay clear tonight, I will try to capture the Full Moon setting in Oriental.
In the evening, we (Michele and I and the dogs) went to Oriental. The winds were calm. It was a because sunset, but we were interested in the Moon rise. And I also used the Nikon Nikkon DX AF-S 55-300mm 4.5-5.6 GED len with zoomed at 300mm.

I used a Shutter Speed of 1/8 seconds, an Aperture setting of f/4.5, and an ISO of 100, with 55mm on the len.

I used a Shutter Speed of 1.6 seconds, an Aperture setting of f/5.6, and an ISO of 100, with 300mm zoom setting on the len.
